We only sell Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certified diamonds at Since1910.com, because in the jewelry community GIA is considered the most recognized, consistent, and accurate of all grading labs. One only needs to browse an auction catalog from a major auction house to see that GIA is the top lab in the categories of six, seven, and eight figure priced diamonds.
Why would a diamond seller seek a non-GIA certificate for his or her diamonds?
The major reason is stringency. A non-GIA lab is less stringent than GIA. The result is consistently higher diamond ratings, which often translates into an inflated price tag for a diamond. The buyer suffers as a result. With a non-GIA certified diamond, the buyer is being fooled into thinking he is getting a higher quality diamond than he actually is. We have seen diamonds graded by the GIA and by another lab come out with vastly different ratings--the non-GIA lab grades are often two grades higher! The only exception to this is the American Gem Society, which we are also a member. We find that our customers prefer, without exception, a certificate from the GIA because it is by far the most recognized and trusted lab.
Our committment to you
Practically every fine diamond sold by reputable establishments has documentation from the GIA. Because at Since1910.com our goal is to sell only the finest products available on the market, we made the decision to sell all our finer diamonds only with GIA certification. In the diamond search section, we have included copies of the GIA certificates on most of our diamonds to help our customers in their decision making process.
